Area-48 Scientific Department Handbook
Level 1 Clearance

Section 1 Department Policies

  • Class-D: Class-D personnel are hazards, and must be treated as such; however, they are still human beings. They should be treated with the same respect you would give to any one of your colleagues. Restraints are recommended at all times during testing when full range of movement isn't required. Class-D should always be unrestrained when in a secure testing chamber, containment room, or holding cell. Always search and amnesticize Class-D personnel after testing has concluded.

  • Testing Requirements: All Scientific Department staff at Area-48 must adhere to the Area-48 Testing Requirements, which requires the listed amount of Security Department personnel to be present at the time and location of testing. These requirements can be adjusted by the Head of Research, Area Director, or Foundation Command if needed.

  • Amnesticization: All Class-D personnel are to be amnesticized unless they are required for further testing and kept in a secure location outside of D-Block. Any Level 3+ may order the amnesticization of a Level 2 or below if the content of the test is deemed to be classified information. Any Level 4 may order the amnesticization of a Level 3.

Section 2 Facility Code Procedure

Code Green: Situation normal. The perfect time to start up a test.
Code Yellow: Halt testing only if the breach poses a danger to testing. Otherwise, testing may continue.
Code Orange: Halt all testing immediately. Seek a Security Department escort to a designated safe zone.
Code Red: Halt all testing immediately. Seek a Security Department escort to a designated safe zone.
Code Grey: Also known as Code Lockdown. Response is situational, but it is usually a good idea to pause any major testing.
Code Purple - An unidentified anomalous object has been spotted within Area-48. All testing should stop immediately, and research should seek a safe zone.
Code Blue: Testing may continue if mass-coordination is not required. Use of the radio is forbidden except on channels that are confirmed to be safe.
Code Black: Disregard any current testing and flee Area-48 immediately. Request an escort from the Security Department, but don't just wait around for them.

Section 3 Amnestics Guide

Amnesticization is a requirement for any personnel lacking the proper access clearance, Class-D or otherwise.

  • Class A: Class A amnestics are used to reliably remove the past 5-7 hours of the target's memory.

  • Class B: Class B amnestics are used to remove roughly the past 12-48 hours of the target's memory.

These are the only classes of amnestics permitted for use by the Area-48 Scientific Department. For access to additional amnestic classes, contact Command.

Section 4 Tests, Projects, and Interviews

All tests, projects, or object interviews must be logged and submitted into the proper section using the provided format. Failure to log a test, project, or interview may lead to serious consequences and potential termination of employment under the Area-48 Scientific Department.

Engineers from Area-48's E&TS Department are instrumental to creating a safe and secure lab environment, and are the key to progressing in almost any R&D project. While they aren't busy performing maintenance or helping the Security Department with defenses, they should be helping out with the Scientific Department.
// Tests, projects, and interviews are expected to be logged on the forums and must have a valid RP Moderator to be considered valid. Improperly RP Modded or unlogged tests may be voided! All tests, projects, and interviews are canon.

Section 5 Safe Zones

Area-48 has various designated safe zones located throughout the facility. They are as follows:

  • (LCZ) R-Wing

  • (LCZ) D-Block Overwatch

  • (LCZ) Firing Range

  • (EZ) Cafeteria

  • (EZ) Surveillance Room

  • (EZ) Administration Offices

  • (EZ) Surface Compound

Section 6 Chain of Command

  1. Head of Research (4)- The head of the Scientific Department at Area-48, and is only subordinate to the Area Director and Command. Has the freedom to test on every SCP, and is responsible for managing the entire department.

  2. Research Supervisor (4) - Equal in rank to a Special Agent in Charge from the Security Department. Responsible for managing the lower ranks of the department, and works closely with the Head of Research. Some of the brightest and most trustworthy individuals at Area-48, who are able to test on nearly any SCP.

  3. Staff Researcher (3) - As a Level 3, Staff Researchers are meant to be a sort of role model for your subordinate researchers. They have proven their worth to the department, and usually have some serious experience under their belts. Much more freedom to test on high-risk SCP objects.

  4. Researcher (2) - The only thing between Level 1 and 2 is a few tests or projects. Researchers have many more freedoms when conducting tests on certain higher-risk SCP objects.
// Level 2 Researcher comes standard with the Level 2 Engineer whitelist, part of the E&TS Department.

  5. Assistant Researcher (1) - The entry level profession of the Scientific Department.
